Last week I went to New York to cover the Gran Fondo New York (GFNY) for GFNY Netherlands. I also worked together with Kris Clerckx for the Belgian magazine Grinta in which he described his GFNY adventure and with Thomas Braun to make an article about the cycling culture in NY for the Dutch magazine Fiets. Thomas was also my roommate and we had great fun together, we wandered around New York together for a day to complete the article and we met a lot of great people. For instance, we had lunch at a traditional burger place in America and I saw that the waitress had a real cool tattoo, I asked her if I could take a portrait of her, she agreed and so we took one outside of the restaurant. On the race day, I was on the motorbike with local Tom Walsh who drove me around on his Harley which was awesome. Unfortunately, my trip to NY was only for four days and all of them were filled with photography assignments. Luckily, the assignments were great fun and during those, I met tons of people and went back to Europe with great new experiences, it was hard work but all worth it! Here’s a small selections of how I experienced the race and my days in New York.
Thomas Braun in action during the GFNY, his article with my photos on cycling got published in Fiets!
